Aingeal Rose (NSFW)

Published:

Last weekend I won first place at the Nudes on Tap exhibition at the Tap Gallery Sydney with a print titled Angeldragonfly. On the night I was asked many of the same questions: Who was the model? What was she covered with? Who came up with the pose? and were there any other photos from the shoot? To answer the first and last questions, the model was Aingeal Rose, and here are some of the other photos from the shoot.

The shoot was just a little over 4 years ago, and was a bit of an experimental one for me at the time. I wanted to try a few lighting techniques, movement, flexibility, odd poses and to play with texture - in this case by using a mix of oil and coffee.

I needed to wait till later in the day to try some light painting, and figured it would be better to do the texture shots later as it would be somewhat messy, so we started with clothing and movement.

Looking back at this one, I think if I was to do this now I would have framed it so she was a little further into the frame.

We then moved into fleixibility and odd poses, along with a few where I shot with a wide angle lens from a close low position in order to elongate her legs in an extreme way.

We then moved onto the texture shots, first Aingeal covered herself with oil, then I sifted coffee over her body, we used a brush to even out some of the spots where it clumped together and worked it into some of the shots.

As well as trying the different techniques when taking the photos, I was also experimenting a bit with the post processing.

With the posing, I gave a very vague general idea of the kind of thing I had in mind, Aingeal came up with the pose, then in a couple of cases I would tweak them a little.

The last thing we did on the day was to try a bit of light painting, it didn't work out as well as I hoped, but that was down to me learning the technique.

As a side note and testimate to Aingeal's willingness to do what it takes to get the photo, she hates coffee, can't stand it or the smell of it, yet was covered head to toe for quite some time while doing the shoot.
