On my last trip to Queensland I stopped off at the Gold Coast to photograph Lily Jay, as it was her first nude shoot we did a few different styles.
When travelling choosing somewhere to stay and shoot is not always easy, no matter how a place looks in photos, you're never really sure what you are going to find when you get there.
As I'm usually there for an afternoon and evening I generally try and get a north east facing room so as to catch the sunset. If staying in a city the other consideration is light from surrounding buildings which I can use in shots taken on the balcony.
In this case though, I couldn't choose which side of the building to be on, so it was pot luck. In this case there was a bit of light from other buildings, but not as much as I would have liked.
Too make up for the lack of light I changed to using a torch and shooting against one of the walls of the balcony which made for interesting shadows in some of the photos.
As there was a glass door/wall on one side of the balcony we did a few shots using the glass from both out of the room and inside it, still using the torch as light.
We then moved onto more studio style shots with a black backdrop, mostly with the torch, but some with a flash.
We then swapped to the bedroom for some boudoir style photos mostly using the bedside lights.
One of the features of the room was a bathroom that looked through a glass wall, into the bedroom and out to the balcony. It was one of the reasons I choose the room to book, but also one that I wasn't entirely sure how I was going to use, so it was a bit of a challenge.
The slide show has a wider selection of photos from the shoot.
